Behind the build / A FIRSTHAND ACCOUNT

The story of MonoMC.

How it started, what we built, and why it disappeared.

I am writing this to share the real history of the MonoMC KitPvP Minecraft server (play.monomc.club), from how it started to how it ended. One day the server was simply gone, and a lot of you have been left wondering what happened. As the person who built it, I want to give the community that made it possible a clear answer.

The Genesis: Filling a Void in the KitPvP Community

MonoMC was born in early February 2023 out of a simple idea shared among a group of friends. At the time, we were heavily active on InvadedLands.net. While streaming on YouTube and playing there regularly, it became clear that a lack of maintenance, updates and general care was leaving the InvadedLands community stranded. They wanted a place where the KitPvP format could thrive.

What started as a small project to create a server for my friends quickly evolved into a mission to build a brand-new home for this community.

Unintentional Fundraising & Grassroots Support

Originally, the development of MonoMC was funded entirely by donations from my livestreams. While playing on alternative servers and streaming the creation process, the community showed overwhelming, organic support. Even before the server was fully realized, players were backing the dream of a dedicated, well-maintained KitPvP server.

We launched a Discord server and expanded our reach, bringing in players and friends from InvadedLands, Minemen.club and Hypixel.

The Turning Point: A Manager and an "Investor"

As word spread, the project attracted a vital piece of its history: an investor who was less about corporate metrics and more about seeing my dream succeed. A known member and donor from the InvadedLands community stepped forward to fund and actively test features on MonoMC.

He earned the position of Manager. He helped build and manage a staff team of 8, helped build the server itself and helped develop events for hundreds of players. He did all of that before he really knew me, and MonoMC wouldn't have happened without him.

Expansion and High Points

MonoMC grew rapidly, successfully bringing a massive portion of the active InvadedLands player base to our server. To meet growing community expectations, we constantly hosted player polls, tournaments and community events to build a genuine relationship with our players.

To sustain this growth, I expanded the staff team and transitioned my role to Co-Founder. We split ownership, with me holding 60% and an undisclosed partner holding 40%.

The Financial Reality & The Hard Decision

Operating a fast-growing Minecraft server is incredibly expensive. Nearing the end of our run, costs scaled drastically, eventually pushing past what our webstore purchases, livestream donations and budget could sustain. We were facing total bankruptcy.

Despite the financial strain, I fought to keep our staff team together while continuing events to keep the community engaged. During this critical window, I received an outside offer to buy my 60% share in MonoMC, which would transfer my ownership and control of the server to new management.

After reviewing our quarterly estimates and holding extensive meetings, I had to make the incredibly difficult decision to sell my majority share and move on to new chapters. My 60% share was sold to an undisclosed individual for an undisclosed amount to maintain strict confidentiality.

Under the new management, the server was not maintained, and MonoMC shut down shortly after the transition. That is why it seemed to disappear overnight.

A Note of Gratitude

MonoMC taught me invaluable lessons about leadership, business and the sheer power of community support. I will always be deeply appreciative of every single player, staff member and donor who backed this dream.

My hope is that one day, the community we brought together will reunite on a new project to continue the dreams of the players who made MonoMC special.
